Bourbon Tasting + Cocktails on the Porch with Ross Bulla
Ross Bulla, well-known for his love of cigars and bourbon, will be on the Inn porch on Friday, September 27th offering Rendez-VIEW guests a special tasting. This previous VCCC Board member is a certified bourbon steward, so he not only knows the spirit's production and history - he knows how to recommend pours, flights, and pairings.
After her Mother taught Patty how to sew, she made her first quilt for her mom at age 18, and since passed this quilt on to her daughter. Patty has been coming to the Valle since the early 1970s, and her family has long-time ties to our community. A family medicine doctor practicing in Ashe County, Patty loves fabric art as well as quilting + its history. She is the generous donor of quilts found on all beds across our campus.
Quilt Talk with Patty Dilley
Barn Quilt Painting with Lizzie Lowe
Lizzie was raised in Watuaga County and has spent most of her life in the Valle. Currently, she is the Visual Merchandising Program Coordinator for the Mast General Store. She works in all Mast Store communities and her job "curates what people see in the stores." Lizzie also worked with Mast in their Rivercross Market Store in Valle Crucis from 2015-2020. Rivercross had an artist who painted small barn quilts and they were wildly popular. After the artist retired, guests frequently asked for barn quilts so Lizzie figured out how to make them and she is now the barn quilt extraordinaire! When away from work, Lizzie loves to be outside with her dogs, Ellie, a Greyhound from Spain (that is quite the story), and Gus, a Whippet. Lizzie is donating her time to Valle Rendez-View and is excited to share her talent with you all!
Mushroom Foraging with Dr. Coleman McCleneghan
Coleman McCleneghan began her discovery of mushrooms in the Pacific Northwest in the 1980’s. This adventure brought her to the University of Tennessee in the early 1990’s and since that time she has been collecting and teaching about fungi throughout the southern Appalachians. Currently, Dr. McCleneghan teaches at Appalachian State University and calls Foscoe home. At Appstate she teaches courses on biology, mycology, lichenology, and botany. In the community setting she leads walks on fungi and lichens at the Wildflower Pilgrimage in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation, Blue Ridge Chapter of the Native Plant Society, Blue Ridge Nature Conservancy and at the Friend’s of Roan Mountain Naturalist Rallies.
Saturday Night Shindig
This is super exciting! On Saturday, September 28, we're hosting our first ever Valle Rendez-View Gala Dinner! Music by the FABULOUS Belle Peppers, a gourmet dinner catered by Reid's (arguably the best caterers in the High Country), and general hilarity provided by your VCCC hosts. The event kicks off at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner, music, and possibly some dancing, if we're in the mood. Tickets are included in your Weekend price, or join us for just the dinner for $100 per person. All proceeds go to benefit the Valle Crucis Conference Center's ministry of hospitality.
Purchase your tickets now, before they're sold out!
